1.e4 e6 2.d3
White plays the Kings Indian Attack - a lazy player's opening repertoire!

2...d5 3.Nd2 Nc6
Nc6 in front of the c pawn followed by an early e5 is a standard antidote to the KIA - it makes the g2 bishop look silly

4.f4
f4 is something I made up at the board to counter the e5 idea

4...Nf6 5.e5 Nd7 6.Ngf3 d4 7.g3 f6 8.Bg2 Be7
[8...fxe5 if 9.fxe5 Ncxe5 10.Nxe5 Nxe5 11.Qh5+ Nf7 (11...Ng6 loses to 12.Be4 ) 12.Bxb7 Bxb7 13.Qb5+ is good for white]

9.0-0 0-0 10.exf6 Nxf6 11.Nc4 Nd5 12.Bd2
Just played to connect rooks - but watch this bishop carefully!

12...b5 13.Nce5 Nxe5 14.Nxe5 Bb7 15.Qg4!?
15. Qg4 is tricky - if 15. /\ Rf6 then the Knight can't retreat to f6. But now Black threatens Nf6 making Qg4 look like a mistake but /\

15...Qd6!

16.Bb4!!
My favourite move of the year!

16...c5!
The best defence which should probably lead to a forced draw [16...Nxb4 17.Bxb7 followed by Be4 gives a crushing king side attack.; 16...Qxb4 allows 17.Qxe6+ followed by taking on d5. It takes Fritz a while to agree that White has plenty for the piece here.]

17.Bxc5 Qxc5 18.Qxe6+ Kh8 19.Rae1 Rf6 20.Qd7?
Now White should bail out with [20.Nf7+ Kg8 21.Nh6+ Kh8 (Kf8 allows Qg8 mate!) this was the "banker line at move 16]

20...Rb8 21.Re2? Nb6!
White missed this resource and now Black is better - what white can't stand is a normal position with white squared bishops off so /\

22.Bxb7! Nxd7 23.Nxd7 Rxb7!
hanging on to the queen allows Rxe7 and white comes right back into it

24.Nxc5
Now a difficult ending for white to hold - two pawns for a piece down

24...Bxc5 25.Re8+ Rf8 26.Rfe1 Rb8 27.R8e5 Rbc8 28.R1e2 Kg8 29.b4 Bxb4 30.Rxb5 a5 31.Rd5 Bc3 32.Re7 Rf7 33.Ree5 Rb7 34.Kg2 Rcb8 35.Kf3 Rb2 36.Rd7 R2b7 37.Rdd5 Rc7
Black just can't let both white rooks get to the seventh and so struggles to make progress

38.h3 a4 39.Re6 a3 40.f5 Kf7 41.Ra6 Bb2 42.g4 Re8 43.g5 Rce7 44.h4 Re3+ 45.Kg4 R8e5 46.Rd7+ Re7 47.Rd5 R7e5 48.Rd7+
Fritz thinks its close to drawn and time was a major factor *
